The Washington Capitals downed the Los Angeles Kings, 2-0 Wednesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Ilya Samsonov stopped all 34 shots he faced for his fifth career shutout as the Capitals improved their record to 10-2-5 (25 points) on the season. The Capitals’ 25 points are now tied with the Florida Panthers for the most in the NHL.
SUMMARY
After a scoreless first and second period, the Capitals would finally break the seal late in the final frame with a gritty goal from Garnet Hathaway. Hathaway would also add an empty net goal late in regulation for the 2-0 final.

The Capitals and Kings skated to a scoreless draw in the first 20 minutes.

The Kings were 0 for 1 on the power play. The Capitals did not have a man advantage in the first frame and have not had a power play since 9:15 of the third period against the Penguins on Sunday.

The second period would also go scoreless.
