Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored his 741st career NHL goal against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night. The goal ties Brett Hull for fourth place on the NHL’s all-time Goals list.

The goal came in the second period on a deflected shot made by Dmitry Orlov. Ovechkin now has 36 goals in 56 career games against the Sabres.

Ovechkin now has 11 goals and 9 assists in 12 games this season. He is now 25 goals behind Jaromir Jagr (766) for third all-time and is only behind Jagr, Gordie Howe (801), and Wayne Gretzky (894) in Goals Scored for his NHL career.

This career milestone was also Ovechkin’s eleventh goal of the 2021-22 season. He currently ranks first in the NHL for goals.

Jude Hull, son of Brett Hull, was the only one with a negative reaction to Ovechkin tying Brett Hull in career goals.

With an assist on Ovechkin’s goal, Evgeny Kuznetsov has recorded his 432nd career point to pass Dennis Maruk (431) for 11th on the franchise points list.
