The NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Sunday that Philadelphia Flyers center Derick Brassard was fined $2,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct against Washington Capitals right-wing Garnet Hathaway in the Flyers’ 2-1 win at Capital One Arena on Saturday.

After Hathaway glided over by the Flyers bench to go for a hit on defenseman Justin Braun, Brassard punched Hathaway up high when Hathaway was right in front of him.

Hathaway did not sustain an injury on the play.

Brassard received a minor penalty for interference at 5:19 of the second period.

The money will go to the NHL Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Im thining that this is the kind of thing that should get you suspended for several games IF the league and owners and players are serious about having less gratuitous violence in the game. If they are just paying lip service to this then why even fine the player as or many of the players a $2000 fine is nothing not even equalto aparkingticket to the rest of us.

Punk move! But yeah, the DPS is a joke…

Wilson would have gotten 50 games for that move.

      No doubt.

If Brassard does this again, he’s not a “repeat offender” by The general populations rules apparently.

I hate the crap Tom Wilson receives-
Has he made some bad hits? Absolutely.
Is that rare, unique or special in today’s NHL? absolutely not.
The Tom Wilson Microscope was all but confirmed- he is the only man in NHL history to sit in the box for a legal goal. The Athletic reported a higher up talking about Wilson receiving harsher penalties.
It lets people make jokes about Brassard- he’s not a repeat offender after all, and send threats to a Wilson’s family.

Don’t know about you Jon, but I think the hypocrisy had started doing actual physical damage to by body.
