Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has been on a torrid start to the 2021-22 season, and has continued to climb the NHL’s All-time Goals list through the start of the season. On Thursday night against the Florida Panthers, Ovechkin scored his 10th goal of the season, moving him closer to fourth all-time and making history in the process.

Ovechkin’s goal came at the 18:11 mark of the second period, assisted by Lars Eller.

The goal marked Ovechkin’s 740th career goal, moving him with one and two goals, respectively, of tying and passing Brett Hull for fourth on the NHL’s all-time Goals scored list.

By scoring his 10th goal of the 2021-22 season, Ovechkin became the first player in the league to do so this season, moving into him elite company on a number of levels. At age 36, The Great Eight joins Mike Gartner and Maurice Richard as the only players to reach the 10-goal mark first at age 36 or older.

In addition, he has been the first player to 10 goals three times since the 2013-14 season.

Ovechkin’s goal was the first of multiple points against the Panthers, giving him his 379th career multi-point game, moving him into 24th in that department.

Ovechkin’s 10 goals lead the NHL this season.
