Washington Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette told media this afternoon that Ilya Samsonov will get the start in goal for the Capitals tonight when they face the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Florida. He also said that Nic Dowd will return to the lineup tonight.
Aliaksei Protas was re-assigned to Hershey to make room for Dowd in the lineup. Brett Leason will stay in the lineup.
Samsonov is 3-0-0-1 with a 2.43 GAA and a .904 save percentage so far this season. Samsonov has never faced the Florida Panthers.

Center Nic Dowd Dowd has missed three of the past four games with a lower-body injury but was a full participant during the Washington Capitals’ line rushes at Wednesday’s practice at the Panther’s Ice Den.

Sergei Bobrovsky will get the start in goal for the Florida Panthers. He is 6-0-0-0 with a 1.81 GAA and a .944 save percentage so far this season. For his career against the Capitals he is 9-12-5 with a 3.02 GAA and a .898 save percentage.
