Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored career goals No. 736 and 737 in the crazy 7-5 win over the Ottawa Senators Monday night at Canadian Tire Centre. He is now five goals away from passing Brett Hull for the fourth-most goals in NHL history.
After the Capitals’ 4-1 lead dwindled as the Senators scored three times throughout the second period, Ovechkin scored on a breakaway at the 16:27 mark to give Washington back the lead, 5-4.

It was his sixth goal of the season and career goal No. 736 for the Great Eight. In addition, his goal was his first career goal scored on goaltender Filip Gustavsson, the 149th different goaltender Ovechkin has scored on in his career. There have been 6,581 skaters in NHL history who have scored 149 or fewer goals in their career.
Ovechkin also passed Stan Mikita for the second-most career road points recorded by a European-born player in NHL regular-season history.
