The Washington Capitals announced on Monday that they have assigned Connor McMichael and Beck Malenstyn to AHL Hershey. The team also announced they have designated Nicklas Backstrom to injured non-roster.
#Caps assign forwards Connor McMichael and Beck Malenstyn to the Hershey Bears (AHL) and designate Nicklas Backstrom injured non-roster. #Caps expect to make additional transactions and announce the 2021-22 Opening Night roster on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

The move could be a paper transaction to save salary cap space. Teams had to cut roster to 23 players and meet salary cap ceiling by 5:00 PM today. The salary cap “hit” is tabulated each day at 5:00PM. (1/200 x each player’s annual salary). By making a “paper” move, McMichael and Malenstyn are not counted against today’s cap “hit”, and can be recalled tomorrow morning.
We will know more tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Just a paper transaction.
Beck has to clear waivers. 😬
Think that Connershould be back before the first game. If no then they are going to play Oshie at C or Lapiere. Not good but them Im not the coach.
I think he’ll be recalled in the morning. Move was made to save cap space.
I presume Connor gets recalled for Wednesday’s morning skate — unless Ovi can really and truly come back.
I think that’s the deal. Remember the year Orlov was sent down to Hershey every afternoon? That was quite a few years ago.
I think it shows our pipeline is fine… Protas, Leasson and Becks arent far off…
