The Washington Capitals announced on Saturday afternoon they have cut an additional 11 players from their 2021-22 training camp.
The following players have been assigned to the Hershey Bears: Kody Clark, Cody Franson, Shane Gersich (requires waivers), Lucas Johansen (requires waivers), Kale Kessy, Dylan McIlrath (requires waivers), Mason Morelli, Hunter Shepard, Riley Sutter, Eddie Wittchow. Bobby Nardella will continue his rehabilitation in Hershey.
The Bears open training camp this Monday and begin their three-game preseason schedule this Friday. They begin the regular season on Saturday, October 16.

The Capitals return to the ice tonight when they face the Flyers in Philadelphia. Puck drop is set for just after 7:00 PM.

They have to dump Hagelin whatever the price for cap space.
“Whatever the price” is a bit drastic. He’s been very good on 4th line, the Capitals most consistent line last season. Good on penalty kill as well.
Hagelin is overpaid only when you think there are a million hagelins skating around. No one does what he does best cheaper. AKF isn’t an equivalent played, he just has long hair.
Seriously, the hagelin haters, just watch him play literally one match. It could be any match, he’s night in and out consistent

Keeping Hagelin in place of Gersich onlty makes sense because of the cap implications. Just hope that no one picks him up. Cant believe that we have 2 more years of Hagelin. Sad to hear that Backys hip is bothering him, just hope that he doesnt pull a Bo Jackson and have to have it replaced just because he chose to keep playing a game. Now if he was to retire does his salary come off the books? If so then that opens up some room for money for players next year and for Mcmichael to be on the team this year and maybe even Gersich to make the team.
Yes indeed, Druid. A fraction of Backy’s salary comes off the cap hit each day he is out. Caps could pocket quite a few much needed dollars. Let him rest, save some money, as long as he’s ready for the stretch run at the latest.
I just don’t see Shane making it in Dc.
Shane, if they are able to get him through waivers, will take Hagelins place in 2years but taht is a long time to keep going through waivers and a player wanting to sit in Hershey.
