A couple of kilometers northeast of his hometown of Gävle, Sweden, Nicklas Backstrom bought a 7,200 square meter plot of land in 2008, and two years later the house was ready. The villa contains, among other things, a movie room, a large lounge, guest room, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, sauna and relaxation room. It also includes a private beach with a view of Gävlebukten, a jetty and his own tennis court.
Backstrom, who lives next door to Calgary Flame Elias Lindholm, said he has always dreamed about having a home on the water.
The the 33-year-old showed off the 500 square meter luxury villa recently in an interview for “Wikegård vs.”, which will fully air later today. (The show was recorded before Backstrom returned to the US).
“I actually dreamed about this when I was young, about being able to live by the water and have a jet ski and be able to enjoy the summer.”
Entering the Backstrom compound visitors pass his outdoor tennis court and continue along a long driveway. The end of the drive includes a giant hockey stick detailed in ornate brickwork.
A closer look at the brickwork from an advertisement in 2019.
“There are very nice places around here. This just popped up and I hit. It felt right, he says in “Wikegård vs.”
Backstrom has the house as a place in the summer, and lives there with his partner Liza and their three children.
