It didn’t take long. After the Capitals killed an opening power play by the Bruins, the Capitals quickly responded with a goal from Herndon, Virginia native Joe Snively, giving the Capitals their first goal of the preseason.

Snively would collect the puck in front of the net and finish while falling to the ice to give the Capitals an early 1-0 lead over the Bruins.

The goal came at 4:15 into the contest. Defenseman Martin Has and center Hendrix Lapierre had the assists. Both Has and Lapierre were playing in their first career preseason game for the Capitals.

Snively is a 25-year-old left-handed winger who played for Yale prior to graduating in the spring of 2019. The Herndon, Virginia native was never drafted but signed a two-year contract with the Capsitals in 2019 for $925,000 per year on March 18, 2019. The Capitals re-signed Snively to a one-year two-way contract extension on June 3, 2021.

Snively recorded six goals and 11 assists in 30 games played during the 2020-21 season for the Hershey Bears.

Snively said during a second intermission interview that his family and a few of his friends were in the stands for the game.

It hurts to see Ty Lewington playing for the B’s. Really wish the Caps had given him a chance. That one game where he had the Gordie Howe hat trick though…

I’m with ya DC. He was a good 7/8 defenseman for the Capitals, could also drop the gloves. We could use that right now.

      • DC Scappeli says:

Ahhh, B’s get one here….but yes, Ty was a physical presence that the Caps could use more of on the back end. He’s not that fleet of foot, but neither was Orpik, but both guys weren’t shy about getting physical!

  2. DC Scappeli says:

Really nice play with LaPierre and Snively, good set up play there. I’d like to see who has chemistry, even if it’s a pre season game. I wonder what the coaches and BMac are thinking when they see the young guys make plays like that.
