Capitals’ Garrett Pilon’s Goal Ties Preseason Opener 2-2 Against Bruins

Washington Capitals center Garrett Pilon tied up Sunday’s preseason opener at 2-2 against the Boston Bruins at Capital One Arena, scoring his first goal during preseason play.

After trailing the Bruins 2-1, Pilon (1) tied the game 5:26 into the third period with a backhand beauty. Defenseman Martin Fehervary (1) and center Hendrix Lapierre (2) assisted.

The 23-year-old was a call-up during the 2020-21 NHL season and made his NHL debut on May 8 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Fortunately and unfortunately for Pilon, he spent a good portion of the shortened season on the Capitals’ taxi squad, where he saw very little action.

On June 17, the Capitals re-signed Pilon to a two-year, $1.5 million contract. The first year of Pilon’s contract will be a two-way contract ($750,000/$110,000), while the second year will be a one-way contract ($750,000).
