Brett Leason Scores Two Goals In Bears 5-2 Win Over Penguins

The Hershey Bears downed the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 5-2, in their season-finale Sunday afternoon at the Giant Center in Hershey. The victory improves the Bears record to 24-7-2-0 (50 points) for the season.

Connor McMichael and Matt Mouslon notched power play tallies in the first period for a 2-0 Bears lead at the first intermission.

Brett Leason would make it 3-0 early in the second period, but the Penguins would respond with two goals before the end of the middle frame for a 3-2 Bears lead at the second intermission.

Eddie Whittchow would add a goal midway through the final period to make it 4-2 and Brett Leason would add a 5-on-3 goal for the 5-2 final.


Hunter Shepard (2-0-0-1,  0.50 GAA, .983 sv%) got the start between the pipes for the Bears. Brett Brochu (0-0-0-0, 0.00 GAA, .000 sv%) got the start in goal for the visiting Penguins. The starting forward lines and defensive pairs for the Bears:

The Bears opened the scoring with a power play goal from Connor McMichael (14) at 7:37 of the first period. Brett Leason (11) and Aliaksei Protas (5) had the helpers.

The Bears would make it 2-0 with a power play goal from Matt Mouslon (12) at 11:32 of the first frame. Connor McMichael (11) and Cameron Schilling (15) had the assists.

The first period would conclude with the Bears leading 2-0. Hershey was 2 for 3 on the power play. The Penguins did not have a man advantage in the opening stanza.


The Bears would make it 3-0 with a goal from Brett Leason (8) early in the middle frame. Connor McMichael (12) had the lone assist.

The Penguins would get on the scoreboard with a power play goal from Drew O’Conner (7) at 7:30 of the second period.

The Penguins would quickly cut the Bears lead to one with a goal from Cam Lee (2) at 8:56 of the second period, making it 3-2.

The period would end with the Bears holding on to a 3-2 lead. Penguin’s led in shots 17-12 in the second period. The Penguins were 1 for 2 and the Bears 2 for 3 on the power play after two periods.


Kale Kessy and Josh Currie would drop the gloves early in the third period.

Eddie Whittchow would stretch the Bears lead to 4-2 with a goal at 10:00 of the third period.

Brett Leason would score his second goal of the game to make it 5-2, the final score.
