Capitals’ Prospect Tobias Geisser And EV Zug Win Swiss National League Championship

Another Washington Capitals prospect is now a league champion. You may recall our story from two weeks ago about forward prospect Bogdan Trineyev and his team, JHC Dynamo Moscow of the MHL in Russia, winning this year’s Kharlamov Cup. Now Capitals defensive prospect Tobias Geisser, who was loaned to EV Zug of the National League (Switzerland) for the 2020-21 season, is also a champion, as his team won the league championship against Geneve-Servette on Friday.

Geisser did not record any goals or assists in the final round, but was on the top defensive pairing throughout the playoffs. His totals for the playoffs were one goal and one assist in 13 playoff games.

For the 2020-21 regular season, Geisser played in 50 games, scoring five goals and recording 17 assists for 22 points. Geisser was loaned to his former team for the season because of the uncertainty of when the AHL would resume play due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Incidentally, former Washington Capitals’ players Eric Fehr and Daniel Winnik were members of Geneve-Servette, along with Capitals prospect, left winger, Damien Riat. Riat has since left that team to play for the Hershey Bears.
