The NHL Department of Player safety announced on Tuesday morning that Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for roughing forward Pavel Buchnevich in the brawl at 7:40 of the second period in the team’s 6-3 win over the New York Rangers on Monday.

Wilson punched Buchnevich in the upper body after Buchnevich tried to stuff a loose puck into the net after the whistle blew. When Panarin came to the defense of his teammate, Wilson took him down to the ice and attempted to keep him there when Panarin tried to get back up.

Wilson earned a 10-minute misconduct and a roughing penalty on the play. He earned a goal, two points, two shots, and one hit in 11:49 of Monday’s game.

Wilson was suspended seven games for boarding Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo on March 6.

Wilson has recorded 13 goals, 33 points, and a +3 rating in 43 games this season.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman, Panarin will miss the rest of the season for the Rangers, who were eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention on Monday.

The Capitals and Rangers clash again at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington locally, NBCSN nationally).

All the hullabaloo from the NYR to distract from them losing to less than a fully-dressed roster. Glad NHL DPS got this one right (for once).

NHL is becoming soft, 2000 for taking a dive 5000 for throwing a punch. SMH After watching tons of hits from behind and you call those.
