The Hershey Bears beat the Binghamton Devils, 4-3 (SO), Wednesday night at the RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House in Newark, New Jersey. The victory improves the Bears record to 18-6-2-0 (38 points) on the season.
The Devils would strike first with a power play tally late in the opening frame for a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

Matt Moulson would notch two scores in the second period to give the Bears an early 2-1 lead, but the Devils would answer with a power play goal late in the period to make it a 2-2 tie at the second intermission.

The Bears would once again retake the lead with a power play goal from Phil Maillet early in the final period, but the Devils would once again answer midway through the period for a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation.

The overtime period would go scoreless. Phil Maillet and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby would score in the shootout fo the Bears 4-3 win.

STARTERS

Zach Fucale (7-2-0-1,  1.66 GAA, .937 SV%) got the start between the pipes for the visiting Bears. Jeremy Brodeur (0-1-0-0, 3.07 GAA, .940 sv%) got the start in goal for the Devils. The starting forward lines and defensive pairs for the Bears:

Scratches: Martin Fehervary (injured in practice), Brian Pinho (upper body injury), Lucas Johansen (upper body injury), Kody Clark (upper body injury), Blake Pietila (lower body injury), Rob O’Gara (injury), Bobby Nardella (injury) and Andrew Nielsen (illness).

Macoy Erkamps was recalled from South Carolina earlier in the week.

Bobby Nardella will not play for the Bears this season.

FIRST PERIOD

After a mostly scoreless first frame, the Devils would finally break the scoring seal with a power play tally from Alexander Holtz (1) at 18:59 of the first frame.

That would be all of the scoring in the first period. The Bears led in shots 14-10 in the first frame. Hershey was 0 for 1 and Binghamton 1 for 3 on the power play in the opening stanza.

SECOND PERIOD

The Bears would tie the game with a goal from Matt Moulson (9) at 5:16 of the middle frame. Phil Maillet (12) and Reece Wilcox (4) had the helpers.

The Bears would grab their first lead of the game on Matt Moulson’s second goal of the period. Connor McMichael (8) and Joe Snively (10) had the assists.

The Devils would answer with a power play goal from Mason Jobst (1) late in the frame for a 2-2 tie.

The second period would conclude with the game tied 2-2. The Devils led in shots 10-4 in the middle frame and 20-18 after two periods. Hershey was 1 for 2 and Binghamton 2 for 5 on the power play after two periods.

THIRD PERIOD

The Bears would retake the lead with a power play goal from Phil Maillet (4) at 1:54 of the final frame. Alex Alexeyev (4) and Matt Moulson (9) had the  assists.

The Devils would answer midway through the period with a goal from Mason Jobst (2) to tie the game 3-3.

Regulation would end with the game tied 3-3.

OVERTIME/SHOOTOUT

The overtime period would go scoreless. Phil Maillet and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby would score in the shootout for the Bears 4-3 victory.
