Ovechkin Misses Practice Again, Justin Schultz Returns In Non-Contact Jersey, Caps Excited For Fans Return: News From Capitals Practice On Monday

The Washington Capitals returned to practice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Monday following a much-deserved day-off on Sunday. The Capitals and Islanders will conclude their eight-game season series Tuesday night at Capital One Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Here’s the latest news and notes from Capitals practice on Monday.

PRACTICE

Alex Ovechkin missed practice again on Monday, but did do some minor skating after the team photo.

Capitals bench boss Peter Laviolette was asked about the status of Ovechkin during his weekly appearance on Junks Radio Monday morning. He didn’t think the injury was anything long term.

“I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, where people should be wondering if he’s going to be in the playoffs or not, I don’t think it’s that,” said Laviolette. “I don’t think it’s anything long term. I’m not sure if he’ll be there tomorrow. I don’t think anybody needs to start getting worried about the playoffs or anything like that. I don’t think.”

Justin Schultz (lower body) returned to practice in a non-contact light blue jersey. He’s missed the last two games after suffering an injury in the first period of the Bruins game on April 18.
