Bird is the Word: Evgeny Kuznetsov’s Game-Winning Goal Lifts Capitals 1-0 Over Islanders

Washington Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the game-winning goal in the shootout during Thursday’s 1-0 win over the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. It marked his sixth career game-deciding shootout goal.

Kuznetsov beat Islanders’ goaltender Semyon Varlamov in the third round of the shootout, sealing a 1-0 victory for the Capitals.

It marked his sixth career game-deciding shootout goal.

He earned the third star in the “Three Stars of  the Game.” Kuznetsov has picked up six points in his last six games. The 28-year-old has 26 points in 38 games played, which include nine goals.

Kuznetsov and the Capitals face off against the Islanders again on Saturday at Nassau Coliseum (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington, and ESPN+).
