The Washington Capitals announced on Friday that goaltenders Craig Anderson, who was placed on the taxi squad, and Zach Fucale, who is heading to the AHL’s Hershey Bears, have been re-assigned.
Goaltender Ilya Samsonov missed Thursday’s 5-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres due to an upper-body injury and is day-to-day. Anderson, who is 1-1-0 with an .881 save percentage and a 2.79 goals-against average in three games this season, made eight saves on as many shots while playing the last 24:44 in relief of Vitek Vanecek on Thursday.
Fucale, 25, is 6-2-0 with a .932 save percentage, a 1.75 goals-against average, and one shutout with the Bears this season.
The Montreal Canadiens drafted him 36th overall in 2013 and signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals on August 19. He made stops with the Vegas Golden Knights and Tampa Bay Lightning in the past two seasons.
Fucale has yet to play an NHL game in his career.
The Capitals are scheduled to play against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday afternoon (12:30 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington locally, NHL Network nationally), the first game of a back-to-back.
