When the Washington Capitals signed forward Conor Sheary to a one-year contract in free agency during the offseason, they did so hoping the former Pittsburgh Penguin and Buffalo Sabre could provide some offensive depth to their bottom-six forward ranks. Through 38 games this season, Sheary has not only proven to be a steal of a signing, but has been one of the Caps’ more productive bottom-six forwards, something he continued on Easter Sunday against the New Jersey Devils.

With the Capitals tied with the Devils 1-1 thanks to a T.J. Oshie marker, Sheary potted his eighth goal of the 2020-21 season to give the Caps a 2-1 lead.

The goal marked Sheary’s 14th point of the season and continued a productive season for the veteran forward, who ranked fourth among Capitals skaters in Goals Scored Per 60 minutes of five-on-five play; not a bad statistic for a one-year, $735,000 deal. Justin Schultz and Dmitry Orlov picked up assists on the play. Schultz’ was his 14th primary assist of the season (his 16th overall), tying him for fifth among NHL blueliners in that category, while Orlov’s was his fifth point in seven games.
