World renowned goalie mask artist David Gunnarsson released images and a video of his latest creation for Washington Capitals goaltender Ilya Samsonov. The closer look was released on Gunnarsson’s Instagram account earlier on Sunday. Samsonov has been wearing the mask in games since January.

Gunnarsson included a message regarding the latest edition of Samsonov’s mask design:

“It was such a joy to create the latest Caps mask for my friend Ilya Samsonov⭐️😊🇷🇺. The Storyteller design is a true thrill ride of detail work📘👀🔍. It is created as a hybrid, on a distance it has a touch of retro feelings with the crisp lines, and it is mixed with action packed 3-D FX in vintage style. The non-symmetrical solution gives an extra action effect when the mask turns from side to side🔁, stuff like that is what a paint nerd like me loves🤓🕺. Thanks Ilya for the paint ride! 🙏🏻😊 @samsonov_30 @capitals #DaveArtFamily @nhl #DaveArtFamily #DaveArtTheCradleOfCreativity @proschoicemask”

Gunnarsson also released a close-up video of Samsonov’s mask on his Instagram page on Sunday.

Gunnarsson is the mastermind behind goalie mask designs for numerous Washington Capitals and Hershey Bears goaltenders over the years. A few examples are here, here and here.

Gunnarsson has been working with Ilya Samsonov since Samsonov began playing in the United States, including his time with the Hershey Bears.
