The Washington Capitals announced on Tuesday morning that they have assigned centers Michael Sgarbossa and Garrett Pilon from the AHL’s Hershey Bears to the taxi squad.

Sgarbossa, 28, has recorded five goals and 10 points in 13 games with the Bears and two assists in five games with the Capitals this season. He was signed by the team as an unrestricted free agent prior to the 2018-19 season.

Pilon, whom the Capitals selected 87th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft and is 22, has recorded four goals and a team-leading 16 points in 14 games with the Bears this season. He has yet to play an NHL game in his career.

The Capitals’ next game will be against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington). It is unclear whether they have any players that will be unavailable due to injury or illness at the moment.

Really looking forward to seeing Pilon get a shot with the Caps. Interested in seeing the style of player he is.

    • Jon Sorensen says:

Same Marky. He has next-level play-making abilities, sees the ice real well and has a pretty good shot. His size/puck battles is only question in my book, but he’s ready for a shot.
