First Period

The Capitals led 4-3 in takeaways, 12-9 in hits, and won 57% of the draws in the period.

The Rangers led 8-5 in shots, 7-4 in blocked shots, and had one giveaway while the Capitals had two through 20 minutes.

Third Period

Captain Alex Ovechkin tapped in defenseman Justin Schultz’s rebound in front into a wide open net after goaltender Alexander Georgiev stopped Schultz with the blocker to tie it with 6:42 to go.

Ovechkin scored a similar goal in the crease off of a rebound after defenseman John Carlson’s shot from the dot was robbed by Georgiev to give the Capitals the lead with 3:33 left.

The Capitals led 32-23 in hits, 14-9 in takeaways, won 56% of the draws, and did not convert on their lone man advantage.
