John Carlson Records 500th Career NHL Point With Goal Against Flyers

John Carlson scored his 500th NHL point in Thursday night’s game against the Flyers in Philadelphia. It came on a goal by Carlson himself. It was a beauty.

The point marked the first time a defenseman has recorded 500 career points in Capitals franchise history. He currently ranks ninth in franchise history in career points. He is also the thirteenth American defenseman to record 500 NHL points.

The Capitals selected John Carlson in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft with the 27th pick overall. He made his NHL debut during the 2009-10 season against the Montreal Canadiens on November 20, 2009.

His first NHL points were a goal and an assists against the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 21, 2010.
