Since being acquired by the Washington Capitals from the Detroit Red Wings on February 22, 2019, defenseman Nick Jensen had played in 108 games in the Red, White, and Blue, all without scoring a goal. In his 299th career game on March 7, 2021, the St. Cloud State product ended that goalless drought by scoring against the Philadelphia Flyers.

With the Caps already holding a 2-1 lead over the host Flyers, Jensen found himself with a clear lane on Philly goaltender Carter Hart and fired the puck past the young netminder for his first goal in a Capitals sweater and seventh career goal, assisted by Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie.

The goal also marked Jensen’s sixth point (one goal, five assists) in his last 11 games played and 21st point as a member of the Capitals. The goal was his first since October 11, 2018, when he scored two as a member of the Red Wings and resulted from a hit by defenseman Zdeno Chara.

Oshie’s secondary assist on the goal was his second point of the night and his fourth multi-point game of the 2020-21 season.
