Kuznetsov (Upper-Body) Will Not Play Sunday Against Devils; Laviolette Going With Same Lineup from Saturday

On Sunday, Washington Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette spoke to the media prior to Sunday’s clash with the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center (3 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington). He announced center Evgeny Kuznetsov will not draw into the lineup this afternoon and Laviolette is going with the same lineup from Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Devils.

Kuznetsov will miss his second consecutive game due to an upper-body injury. He is listed as day-to-day. Forward Daniel Sprong, who scored a goal in Saturday’s win, will slot in for Kuznetsov.

Additionally, goaltender Ilya Samsonov will make his first start since January 17. Laviolette said during his pre-game media availability they wanted to “put him [Samsonov] in a position where was feeling good on the ice” and “had some games…and good quality practice.”

Vitek Vanecek will be his backup. Netminder Craig Anderson was re-assigned from the roster to the taxi squad this morning.

Laviolette will be using the same lineup from Saturday for Sunday’s game.
