Evgeny Kuznetsov, Ilya Samsonov and Justin Schultz Return To Practice, All Listed “Day To Day”: Monday Practice News


The Washington Capitals were back to work Monday afternoon following there 7-4 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. The same two teams will tee it up again on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena. Puck drop is set for 6:07 p.m.

The Capitals storylines on Monday morning continue to be the status status of TJ Oshie (upper body injury)Ilya Samsonov (COVID-19 list), Evgeny Kuznetsov (COVID-19 list), Jakub Vrana (COVID-19 list), Justin Schultz (upper body injury) and Brian Pinho (undisclosed injury).

Evgeny Kuznetsov, Ilya Samsonov and Justin Schultz returned to practice on Monday. Schultz was wearing a full protective helmet/mask.

Jakub Vrana (COVID-19-absences list) and TJ Oshie (upper body) did not participate in practice.

The team announced Tuesday morning that they have re-assigned Pheonix Copley and Martin Fehervary from Hershey to the Capitals taxi squad.

Martin Fehervary, Brian Pinho, Michael Sgarbossa and Philippe Maillet were all on the ice as Caps practice finished up. Pinho is out of his non contact jersey and in a regular jersey.

The Capitals power play units also included the return of Kuznetsov. He and Eller will likely switch places as soon as Kuznetsov returns to game-ready shape.

  • Tom Wilson recorded four points (1g, 3a) in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers. It marked the first three assist game of his career and his second career four point game (2g, 2a on Dec. 6, 2017 against the Chicago Blackhawks).
  • Wilson’s 12 points this season (5g, 7a) are tied with Alex Ovechkin for the second most on the Capitals. This season marks Wilson’s second-best 10-game start of his career, second only to his 14 points (8g, 6a) in 10 games in 2018-19, when Wilson finished with 40 points (22g, 18a) in 63 games.
  • Currently, Wilson is averaging 1.20 points per game, nearly double his career best season of points per game (0.65 points per game in 2019-20). Additionally, Wilson has nine penalty minutes in 10 games (0.90 penalty minutes per game). He has never averaged less than 1.36 penalty minutes per game in a single season.
