Forwards Jakub Vrana, who was placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list on Saturday night, and T.J. Oshie, who missed practice on Saturday due to maintenance (upper-body injury), are unavailable for the Washington Capitals against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday (12 PM ET, NBC). Forwards Philippe Maillet, who will make his NHL debut, and Daniel Carr, will draw in for them. The two were recalled from the taxi squad while the Capitals assigned center Michael Sgarbossa to the taxi squad.
Head coach Peter Laviolette told the media prior to the game that center Evgeny Kuznetsov and goaltender Ilya Samsonov, who will miss their eighth consecutive game on Sunday after being placed on the COVID-19 protocol list on January 20, have rejoined the group and are starting to work out again.
Center Lars Eller came back in after missing four games due to an upper-body injury.
Defenseman Justin Schultz (upper-body injury) missed his third consecutive game. Forward Conor Sheary, who missed the last two with a lower-body injury and did not practice on Saturday, played.
