The Washington Capitals announced on Friday that they have assigned defenseman Martin Fehervary to the AHL’s Hershey Bears, who are set to open their season against the Binghamton Devils in Newark, New Jersey.
The 21-year-old was on the Capitals’ taxi squad and has not played an NHL game this season. He is exempt from waivers and could be assigned to the Bears on occasion for the purpose of playing time.
In six games with the Capitals last season, Fehervary posted an assist and a -2 rating. He chipped in four goals, 14 points, and a +15 rating in 56 games with the Bears during the 2019-20 season. Fehervary also appeared in two Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Capitals.
The Capitals selected Fehervary 46th overall in 2018.
He impressed last season but the left-side of the Capitals defense is crowded with Zdeno Chara, Brenden Dillon, Dmitry Orlov, and Jonas Siegenthaler all currently ahead of him on the depth chart.
