Alex Ovechkin scored his 708th goal of his NHL career goal against the Boston Bruins Saturday night. He is now tied with former Capital Mike Gartner for seventh place on the All Time List for career goals. The goal was a game winner in Overtime to seal a 4-3 victory.
In addition to it being Ovechkin’s 708th career goal and his second goal of the 2020-21 season, it was his 111th game winning goal, which allowed him to take over sole possession of fourth place on that list, breaking a tie with Brett Hull and Teemu Selanne. It was also the 23rd Overtime goal in his career, extending his first place lead. Ovechkin met with the media following the game:
The next player to pass on the All Time Goal Scoring list would be Phil Esposito whose career total is 717 and is in sixth place. Congratulations, Alex.
