When the Washington Capitals signed him to a two-year, $8 million contract in free agency this past offseason, the hope was that in addition to adding depth to a defensive corps that struggled a season prior, he would be able to bolster the team’s offensive contributions from the blueline. While it took him some time, the Capitals’ No. 2 did just that in Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres, recording his first two points as a member of the team.
Schultz’ first point came at the 6:58 mark of the first period, when Schultz scored unassisted on Buffalo goaltender Linus Ullmark. The goal was Schultz’ 51st of his NHL career and his first in a Capitals sweater.

Schultz’ second point came on a primary assist to right wing T.J. Oshie, firing a shot from the point that was deflected by Oshie past Ullmark to give the Capitals a lead at the time on the power play.

Schultz’ career-high in points (in a full, 82-game season) came in 2016-17 with the Pittsburgh Penguins, during which he recorded 51 points (12 goals, 39 assists).
