On Wednesday the Washington Capitals released their official roster for the opening of the 2020-21 season.
The Capitals also announced the team’s taxi squad to start the 2020-22 season.
Capitals taxi squad (as of Jan. 13): Daniel Carr, Brian Pinho, Martin Fehervary, Pheonix Copley and Zach Fucale.
Reminder that G Craig Anderson was signed today and placed on waivers with the expectation that he will join the taxi squad if he clears.

Connor McMichael will likely be added to the team’s taxi squad once he completes his required seven-day quarantine. One player currently on the taxi squad will need to be waived or re-assigned (6-player max) to make room for him. Look for Zach Fucale to be re-assigned to the South Carolina Stingrays until camp opens for the Hershey Bears.
The team has the day off today and will travel to Buffalo this afternoon in advance of their season opener against the Sabres on Thursday night.
#Caps will be off on Wednesday. Washington will hold 11:30 morning skate on Thursday at KeyBank Center in Buffalo with media availability to follow.

Additionally, the Capitals announced the signing of goaltender Craig Anderson to a one year deal for $700,000. He was placed on waivers in order to transfer to the team’s taxi squad tomorrow.
The #Caps have signed free agent goaltender Craig Anderson to a one-year contract for $700,000. He was placed on waivers moments ago, at noon on Wednesday. Should he clear waivers at noon on Thursday, he is expected to join the team’s taxi squad.

Good to see that McMichael will be on the Taxi not the bus to Hershey. I hope that he gets in several games at both center and forward. Thinking ahead to next year, will his position be as a wing or a center? If at center who does he push out? IF at whing who does he push out? And on which line do you see him being most productive?
Ordinarily, McMichael wouldn’t be eligible to play in the AHL this season, since his birthday is after the December 31 cutoff. Were the rules changed for this season since it’ll start so late?
Yep, Under-20 rule changed for this season only.
