The Washington Capitals placed nine players, including forward Shane Gersich and Michael Sgarbossa in addition to defenseman Lucas Johansen and goaltender Pheonix Copley, on waivers on Monday as they prepare to submit their final 23-man and four-to-six player taxi squad roster by the 5 PM ET deadline on Tuesday.
Forwards Daniel Carr and Philippe Maillet; defensemen Paul LaDue and Cam Schilling; and goaltender Zach Fucale were the other five players placed on waivers.
#Caps have waived the following players: Carr, Fucale, Gersich, Johansen, LaDue, Schilling, Sgarbossa, Maillet and Copley. They’ll know at noon on Tuesday whether thos players have cleared or not; some players could find their way to the Caps’ taxi squad if they do clear.

The Capitals signed LaDue, Carr, and Schilling as unrestricted free agents this past offseason.
Since Copley was placed on waivers, the Capitals could be working on a contract with 39-year-old goaltender Craig Anderson who was signed to a PTO for training camp. Every team will be required to carry at least three goalies this season. Though, neither Anderson nor defenseman Martin Fehervary skated with the team’s starters on Monday.

We will find out at 12 PM ET on Tuesday whether these players clear or are claimed. Those players that go unclaimed will likely be assigned to Hershey or added to taxi squad.
The Capitals open the season on Thursday at the Buffalo Sabres (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington).

🤞please clear waivers, please clear waivers, please clear waivers 🤞
Who are you hoping clears?
Going to be real interesting to see if anyone claims anyone off the waiver especially with the taxi squad and being able to carry your own younger players.
Even if a player clears, it doesn’t mean he necessarily will be sent to Hershey. They have to clear to be added to the taxi squad. Carr, Maillet or LaDue could still end up on the taxi squad if the Caps want them there. I can’t believe Johansen is still in camp over LaDue & Schilling. He’s been anything but effective during his career this far. That is when he has actually been healthy
Johansen was waived. (See above).☝️
Missed his name somehow
