According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman, the NHL is planning two outdoor games at Lake Tahoe in Nevada for the 2020-21 season as part of its “Mystery, Alaska experiment” with back-to-back outdoor games.

The Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights could participate in one of the games against each other on Saturday, February 20, and the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins could do so the following day.

The NHL on NBC schedule listed the Avalanche-Golden Knights game on primetime on a Saturday during the regular season, which is unusual. The outdoor game will be the Bruins’ lone game in six days and the Flyers’ in five, hinting that these could be the outdoor games.

The NHL also looked at Lake Louise in Alberta as a possible site for an outdoor game but signage limits on government property shut that down. They also explored holding one in Park City, Utah.

Fans will not be allowed at these games with the number of people limited to around 400 (the traveling parties and whoever is needed to work). We could see drone cameras being tested during these games if the NHL’s plan comes to fruition.

Bettman should be tarred and feathered. Why incure the cost of an outdoor game when revenue is at all time low and the source of that revenue won’t be allowed to attend? It’s as if the federal government is planning this.
