According to a report by Mark Burns of the Sports Business Journal, the team will unveil a new third jersey for the 2020-21 season after January 1.
This news comes after the Capitals went 3-7-1 in their third jerseys last season.
In late October, the Capital One Arena Team Store published a release on the Capitals website which said to “be on the lookout for new unveils of 2020-21 Capitals and Wizards jerseys.” Jerseys is plural, meaning there is at least one more jersey for the Capitals or Wizards still to come. The Capitals released new reverse-retro jerseys in November, which they will also wear this season.
Past other jersey designs worn other than their third jerseys this past season include the 2011 Winter Classic, 2015 Winter Classic, and 2018 NHL Stadium Series ones.
A schedule for when the Capitals will wear their new thirds will likely come out along with the jersey reveal.
The reveal will come around two weeks prior to their season opener. The NHL season will begin on Wednesday, January 13 but the schedule has yet to be released. The Capitals will play 56 games against the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, and Pittsburgh Penguins this season, so we could see them wear their new threads against each opponent.
The Washington Capitals will be launching a third jersey after January 1, per Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations.
