Damien Riat Shootout Goal Sends Geneve-Servette To Semi-Finals of Swiss Cup

After a scoreless 60 minutes of regulation play, former Washington Capital Daniel Winnik and current Capitals prospect Damien Riat notched shootout tallies to beat Lausanne 1-0 on Tuesday. The victory advances Geneve-Servette to the semi-finals of the 2020 Swiss Cup.

Geneva will face in the semi-finals the winner of the last quarter final game between Ajoie, the defending champions, and Bern, which is scheduled to be held on December 14. The meetings is scheduled for Sunday, December 20.

For the month of November, Riat had two goals and four assists in six games played for Geneve-Servette. For the regular season he has four goals and nine assists in 12 regular season games played.

The Capitals signed Riat to a two-year entry level contract on March 5. Riat was preparing to report to Hershey when the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown hockey a week later. Riat’s contract will carry an average annual value of $817,500.

The Capitals loaned Riat to the Geneve-Servette Hockey Club of the Swiss National League on August 4 to begin the 2020-21 hockey season. It is expected that the Capitals will recall Riat to North America when the organization’s 2020-21 training camp opens.
