The Washington Capitals selected goaltender Garin Bjorklund with the 179th overall pick, their final one, at the 2020 NHL Draft, which was held virtually, on Wednesday. The 18-year-old spent last season with the WHL’s Medicine Sound Tigers.
- Height: 6’2″
- Weight: 170 pounds
- Catches: Left
Bjorklund went 20-5-1 with an .897 save percentage, a 2.91 goals-against average, and one shutout last season.
“As a goaltender, one of the biggest keys to success is confidence, and Bjorklund has it in spades. He’s not afraid to make a snazzy glove save or toss in a pad stack just to spice things up. He’s got the agility and the toolkit. His hands are plenty active, and he’s got great conditioning. He’s got the longevity to endure even the messiest of performances in front of him.”
