The Washington Capitals selected center Bear Hughes 148th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday afternoon. The 19-year-old spent last season with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs.
Vitals
- Position: Center
- Height: 6’1″
- Weight: 165 pounds
- Shoots: Right
Hughes posted 16 goals, 47 points, and a +9 rating in 61 games last season, his first in the league. He was passed over in last year’s NHL Entry Draft.
Elite Prospects
“The most exciting part of Bear’s game is that he’s, well, a bear on the puck. Strength allows him to win battles from disadvantaged positions and shrug off checks. He keeps the puck across his hips, putting weight over stick and making him tricky to dispossess. With pressure bearing down, he integrates look offs and changes of pace to misdirect defenders.”
