Incredible. Astounding. Emotional. Those are the words to describe the scene at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto as Philadelphia Flyers’ forward Oskar Lindblom joined the team for warmups prior to their Game 4 clash against in the New York Islanders in the second round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Although he did not draw into the Flyers’ lineup for Sunday night’s game, it was still a remarkable moment for the 24-year-old Swede, who successfully completed chemotherapy treatments on July 2 after being diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, bone cancer in December.

In late June, Lindblom took part in the NHL’s Phase 2 of the Return to Play Plan and returned to the ice and skated with teammates six months after his diagnosis.

In an interview after skating, Lindblom said, “That’s the only thing I’m waiting for right now, to be done with my chemo and be back with the team and play some hockey. That would be unreal to get back to real life again, and have fun.”

The Flyers tweeted a video of Lindblom ringing the bell on July 2, signaling the end of his chemo treatments. He thanked all of his nurses, who wore “Oskar Strong” and “Fight With Oskar” shirts, and gave the group a signed sweater before taking a photo with them.
