The NHL released a statement on Friday regarding NBC analyst Mike Milbury, who made an insulting, misogynistic comment during Thursday’s Washington Capitals-New York Islanders broadcast.

“The comment did not reflect the NHL’s values and commitment to making our game more inclusive and welcoming to all,” the league said in a statement.

During Thursday’s Capitals-Islanders game, co-host John Forslund was discussing the environment of the bubble. “If you think about it, it’s a terrific environment with regard to — if you enjoy playing and enjoy being with your teammates for long periods of time, it’s a perfect place,” Forslund said.

“Not even any woman here to disrupt your concentration,” Milbury said.

His comment about women being a “distraction” sparked outrage. According to Greg Wyshynski of ESPN, Milbury is “not going to be part” of the Philadelphia Flyers-Montréal Canadiens broadcast on Friday night.

What a bunch of crap; people are just too darned sensitive. Of course women and the families, and girlfriends are a distraction, duhhhhh. This isn’t rocket science, give me a break. You want the players to be just thinking about hockey, training, reviewing game films, reviewing plays, etc… You don’t need any unnecessary distractions or drama. Everyone knows what Milbury meant with his comment and this is just a bunch of political correctness crap. Get a life.

Maybe what Milbury should have said is, “women and the families, girlfriends, etc… are a distraction and can result in unnecessary drama for the hockey player who is trying to concentrate on just hockey.”
