The Washington Capitals returned to practice at the Ford Performance Centre in Toronto Saturday afternoon following their 5-2 loss to the Islanders in Game 2 Friday night. The Capitals now trail in the best-of-seven series 2-0, with Game 3 set for noon on Sunday.
Capitals’ head coach Todd Reirden met with the media following Saturday’s practice, and was asked about the status of Nicklas Backstrom.
Nicklas Backstrom was on the ice at the end of practice today, per Reirden. No update to his status for Game 3 on Sunday.

Reirden said “Everyone was on the ice today, including Nick at the end there. And we’ll see how everyone is doing tomorrow morning.”
Backstrom was levied a blind hit from Islanders’ captain Anders Lee in the first period of the Capitals 4-2 loss to the Islanders in Game 1 on Wednesday.

Backstrom missed Game 2 of the series Friday night. On Thursday Reirden said that Backstrom was currently undergoing concussion protocol.

The Capitals face the Islanders in Game 4 of their best-of-seven series on Sunday at noon. The Islanders lead the series 2-0.
