Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom will not return for the remainder of Game 1 of the Capitals’ first-round series against the New York Islanders at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Backstrom took a hard hit from Islanders captain Anders Lee early in the first period.
He was not on the bench for the start of the second period. Backstrom took a hard hit from Lee early in the first period, which resulted in a scrum between Lee and Capitals defenseman John Carlson and later forward Tom Wilson.
