After the NHL and players’ association agreed on the protocols on phases three and four of the league’s return-to-play plan on Friday, the round-robin and qualifying round schedules were released. The Washington Capitals will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in their round-robin opener on Monday, August 3.
The Capitals will also face the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, August 6, and the Boston Bruins on Saturday, August 8 to round out the round-robin tournament.
There will be five games for each of the first two days of the play-in round and six the remaining seven.
Game 1 of the New York Rangers-Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers-New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens-Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks-Edmonton Oilers, and Winnipeg Jets-Calgary Flames series will open the Stanley Cup play-in tournament on August 1.
Every team within the top-four of their conference will not play a set of back-to-backs while each play-in series will have one back-to-back.

Training camps for the 24 teams are set to open on Monday. The Eastern Conference teams will travel to Toronto on Sunday, July 24, the same day the Western Conference teams will go to Edmonton.
