Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby returned to Tattoo Paradise for some fresh new ink Monday evening. The tattoo shop, located in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of the District, had been closed for the past 15 weeks due to business restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, but recently re-opened on June 22nd.

You may recall that Tattoo Pardise is no stranger to Braden Holtby and the Washington Capitals. Several of the the players from the 2018 Stanley Cup team visited the establishment for fresh celebratory ink following a day of debauchery and fountain acquatics in the District on June 10, 2018.

Capitals players included in the 2018 visit were Braden Holtby, T.J. Oshie, Jakub Vrana, Andre Burakovsky, Devante Smith-Pelly and Brett Connolly.

In a Players Tribune Article, Holtby recalled how the trip to Paradise Tattoo originally came about.

“I think it was Oshie who started it, was like….You had guys who were dedicated to being the greatest Mario Kart racers in the world. “If we win, I’m doing it. I swear. I’m getting him inked on me.” Then someone’s like, “You won’t do it. Come on.” And Oshie’s like, “Oh, I’m doing it.” “You won’t.” “Oh, I will. If we win the Cup … I’m getting a Wario tattoo.”

More importantly, the 2018 visit gave the universe this beauty of a photo of Brett Connolly, living his best rock star life, grabbing a quick tat while gnawing on a piece of pizza. If there was ever a need for a photo for a Capitals 70’s rock album, here’s your album cover.

The 2018 visit also gave us this heartwarming photo of Braden Holtby holding Jakub Vrana’s hand while he got his Stanley Cup tattoo.

As for Holtby’s new ink from Monday, which was placed just below his existing Buffalo tattoo on his left arm, we were unable to determine exactly what it is at this point. Regardless, props to Braden for braving the conditions outside to support a local business.

After leaving Tattoo Paradise, Holtby even stopped for a selfie with a Capitals fan.
