Alex Ovechkin Ranks #4 In Forbes Russia’s Highest Paid Russian Stars Under 40

Forbes Russia recently released its “Top 40 stars under 40” list for 2020. Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin ranked 4th overall on this years list. Ovechkin finished 3rd overall in 2019 and was number one in 2018 following the capitals Stanley Cup victory.

2. Olga Buzova, Singer/Media Personality. Revenue for the year: $ 2.7 million

3. Egor Creed, Rapper/Song writer. Revenue for the year. $ 6.9 million

4. Alex Ovechkin, hockey player. Revenue for the year. $15.1 million

5. Ksenia Sobchak, TV anchor/Journalist. Revenue for the year. $ 4.4 million

New York Rangers Artemi Panarin finished 9th on the list. The Penguins Evgeny Malkin finished 14th overall.




Biography and Facts

Career  Ovechkin grew up in a sports family, his father is a former football player, his mother is a two-time Olympic champion in the USSR national basketball team. In two years, Alexander received the first hockey kit – a plastic helmet, club and puck from a children’s toy store, at 8 he began to practice in the hockey section, at 16 he made his debut in the Russian Super League as part of Dynamo Moscow. In 2004, Ovechkin was selected under the first number in the NHL draft, and from the 2005/06 season Alexander has been playing for the Washington Capitals.

Achievements  In 2006, he received a prize for the best newcomer to the NHL (Calder Memorial Trophy). Since then, 9 times became the best sniper of the regular season (Maurice Richard Trophy) and three times recognized as the most valuable player in the league (Hart Memorial Trophy). In 2018, for the first time in his career, he won the Stanley Cup and the prize to the most valuable playoff player (Conn Smythe Trophy).

Recognition  In 2017, in honor of its 100th anniversary, the NHL published a list of the 100 greatest hockey players in league history. Ovechkin, who scored the 1000th point in the 2016/17 season, became one of the four Russians included in the top 100 (along with Sergei Fedorov, Pavel Bure and Pavel Datsyuk).

Statistics  Ovechkin continues the pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s “eternal” sniper record – 894 goals in his career. At the time of stopping the 2019/20 season, due to the pandemic, Alexander had 706 goals.

Contract  In 2008, he signed the first ever NHL contract worth more than $ 100 million. In 13 years, Alexander will receive $ 124 million in Washington.

Marketing  In 2019, Ovechkin signed partnership agreements with the watch brand Hublot and the American supermarket chain Giant Food, and also appeared again in an advertisement for a Russian company: the hockey player became the face of Promsvyazbank rebranding (now PSB). Experts estimated the deal at “about $ 1 million.”

Online  In the fall of 2018, video game manufacturer Wargaming announced a partnership with Ovechkin: the company used the athlete’s image / voice to visualize / voice several characters of the World of Warships game.

Family  In August 2016, he married the daughter of actress Vera Glagoleva Anastasia Shubskaya. In the summer of 2017, the couple celebrated the wedding magnificently, in August 2018, the couple gave birth to a son, Sergey, and in May 2020, their son Ilya.
