Alex Ovechkin’s Game-Worn Jersey From “The Goal” Game Sold in On-Line Auction

Alex Ovechkin’s game-worn jersey from January 16th, 2006 against the Phoenix Coyotes went on the auction blocks this past month. The jersey is the one Ovechkin donned when he scored his iconic goal, which is still considered by most to be Ovechkin’s finest tally.

The auction concluded Saturday evening with a winning bid of $111,930. There were 32 bids overall. The auction, which was originally scheduled to end Saturday, May 16, was extended five times, four times due to late bidding frenzies, and once it was paused for some unknown reason. The jersey previously belonged to a Canadian collector, who told Scott Allen of the Washington Post earlier this month that he paid “just a bit more” than $33,000 for it at an auction in 2018.

No word yet on who the high bidder was.
