Prior to the NHL’s pause on the 2019-20 season due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) planned to host activations, initiatives, and content throughout their properties, which included the Capitals, Washington Mystics, Washington Wizards and Monumental Sports Network, to honor and celebrate Women’s History Month in March.
“We are passionate about inspiring the next generation of women and girls through a shared love of sports and community and continue to encourage all to recognize the amazing accomplishments and future potential they hold,” Monica Dixon, Chief Administrative Officer and President of External Affairs at MSE said about the initiative.
Despite not being able to host the various activities such as a youth hockey clinic and the highly-anticipated Capitals’ Women’s Celebration Game on March 14, the Capitals are finding more ways to promote women including Monumental Sports Network’s “Level With Me” series featuring Skarupa and Team USA Women’s Hockey player Amanda Pelkey and a recap of the annual Scarlet Caps’ Hockey n’ Heels event.
Earlier this year Scarlet Caps members participated in our annual Hockey ‘n Heels event presented by @giantfood for some hockey fun and knowledge! #ALLCAPS #ALLHER pic.twitter.com/sRDIr4h7PB
