After forward Kieffer Sherwood was placed on waivers by the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday and cleared on Monday while the NHL is on pause due to the coronavirus, the league will have a roster freeze in effect at 5 PM ET on Monday, according to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston.
NHL rosters will be frozen at 5 p.m. ET today — hence some of the AHL call-up/assignment activity we’ve seen before that takes effect.

He added that teams have been told that the four-recall post-trade deadline rule will continue to apply if and when the season resumes.
Teams continued to move players between the NHL and AHL early on Monday despite the leagues being on pause.
The Washington Capitals would almost certainly not have needed to make a move even if the roster freeze was not implemented with 14 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goaltenders currently on the roster.
