Washington Capitals‘ captain Alex Ovechkin scored two goals and picked up an assist in Sunday’s 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center. It was his seventh three-point game of the season. In addition, Ovechkin is five goals shy of tying Mike Gartner (708) for 7th place on the NHL All-Time Goals List.
His first goal of the night came on the power-play at the 7:21 mark and tied things up at 1-1 in the first frame. Defenseman John Carlson and center Nicklas Backstrom had the assists.

Minutes later, he would extend the Capitals’ lead 3-1 with a slapshot at the 10:59 mark. Fellow Russians forward Ilya Kovalchuk and center Evgeny Kuznetsov had the helpers. Ovechkin scored his 45th goal of the season and is 5 goals away from tying Mike Gartner (708) for 7th place on the NHL All-Time Goals List.

Interestingly enough, he scored his 45th goal last season on March 1. This season, he notches #45 on March 1, 2020.

In the final period, he picked up an assist off of forward Tom Wilson’s goal just 40 seconds in. It was the seventh game Ovechkin had recorded at least three points.

Ovechkin has scored 356 career goals on the road, which bumps him up the third-most road goals in league history, passing Jaromir Jagr (355).
