After trading for forward Ilya Kovalchuk yesterday evening, the Washington Capitals dealt defenseman Christian Djoos to the Anaheim Ducks on the NHL Trade Deadline on Monday afternoon.
Per TSN’s Frank Seravelli, the Capitals will receive right wing Daniel Sprong in return for Djoos, a former seventh-round draft pick (195th overall in 2012) of the Capitals.

Djoos, who played in just two games with the Capitals in 2019-20, and recorded 32 points in 42 games played with the team’s American Hockey League affiliate Hershey Bears prior to the trade. Djoos played parts of three seasons in Washington, totaling 110 games while recording 24 points (two goals, 22 assists). Djoos was a member of the Capitals’ 2018 Stanley Cup-winning team, recording one assist in 22 playoff games played.
Sprong, a second-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2015, has recorded two points in eight games played with the Ducks this season, and has 30 points (19 goals, 11 assists) in 97 games played in the NHL with Pittsburgh and Anaheim over parts of four seasons. In 39 games played with the AHL’s San Diego Gulls this season, Sprong has recorded 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists), ranking fourth on the Gulls in scoring.
The trade comes after a period in which the Capitals acquired Kovalchuk, and defenseman Brenden Dillon from the San Jose Sharks.

Would have rather gotten rid of Jensen or Panik but at least someone who had no future with the big club might get a shot elsewhere and it opens up a little cap space. And he is an RFA after the year so if they dont resign him no loss.
Agreed. 👍👊
I’am sorry happy he’s out of Cap’s organization ,as cousin of his this season was a nightmare to watch him go through! When you see overpaid players(Jensen,& Orlov),make mistakes every game & think yeah you got guy playing his butt off in Hershey & Gm won’t admit only reason he’s thier was because he embarrassed him at arbitration table! Hope he goes like Nate S. before him & Chandler S. before him & make old club regret letting him go! Hope you love Jensen he’s your new boat anchor!
Agree, he’s steps above Jensen. And costs less too. Anyway, like you said, this is a good move for Djoos’ career. Hope he thrives out there in So. Cal.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I’d actually forgotten he was still in our organization…I think the Caps’ management team had their minds made up about Djoos a long time ago just as they had with Andre Burakovsky. I’d watch Kuznetsov and Orlov make the same giveaways and mistakes Andre was penalized for with reduced PT under both Trotz and his successor. Ditto for Christian…But I guess Teacher’s Pets everywhere will get away with more, usually…no matter the context…
I hope Djoos’ fortunes change for the better in a new uniform…I may even attend a few games and see…

Sorry should say i’am happy he out!
Chandler S playing with 2 world class players is why he has any real success, 4 th liners like him are easy to find. You’ll forget about him soon enough. Djoos got killed by Carolinas forecheck last year and will never be more than a 3rd pairing D which again the caps have too many of. Also remember Alexeyev and Fehry are future top 4 and they also need to start making room for next years draft picks and free agents.
Interested in seeing Sprong, 5’11” and 191, sounds like a steamroller if he has any speed
