Brian Pinho Scores Two Goals in Bears 5-4 Shootout Victory Over Sound Tigers; Garrett Pilon, Brett Leason Also Score

The Hershey Bears downed the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 5-4 (SO) on Saturday night at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. The victory improves the Bears record to 33-17-3-3 (72 points) on the season.

Game Summary
The Sound Tigers recorded the game’s first tally 3:55 into the first frame with a power play goal from Matt Lorito and added a second power play goal midway through the period for an early 2-0 lead. Brian Pinho would get the Bears on the scoreboard late in the frame for a 2-1 Sound Tigers lead at the first intermission. The Bears would respond with goals from Garrett Pilon, Brian Pinho and Brett Leason for a 4-2 Bears lead after two periods. But Bridgeport would answer in third period. The Sound Tigers would cut the Bears lead to one early in the final frame with their third power play goal of the game, making it 4-3. The Sound Tigers would tie the game late, sending the game to overtime. After a scoreless extra frame, the Bears would win it in the shootout.

STARTERS
Vitek Vanecek (14-10-1-1 2.44 GAA, .910 sv%) started between the pipes for the visiting Bears. Christopher Gibson (6-7-5-2, 2.81 GAA, .912 sv%) got the start in goal for the Sound Tigers. The starting forward lines and defensive pairs for the Bears:

Scratches: Mike Sgarbossa (lower-body injury, day-to-day, possible return on Tuesday),  Tommy Hughes, Lucas Johansen and Connor Hobbs (shoulder surgery, out indefinitely) were the injury scratches. Riley Sutter, Eddie Whittchow, Chris McCarthy and Kody Clark, were the healthy scratches.

FIRST PERIOD
The Sound Tigers would strike first with a power play goal from Matt Lorito (9) at 3:55 of the first frame.

The Sound Tigers would make it 2-0 with another power play goal, this time from Oliver Wahlstrom (7) at 10:52 of the first period.

The Sound Tigers led in shots on goal 10-0 with nine minutes remaining in the opening frame.

The Bears would finally get on the scorebaord with a goal from Brian Pinho (16) at 15:19 of the first frame. Alex Alexeyev (16) had the lone assist.

Liam O’Brien and Seth Helgeson would drop the gloves at 16:19 of the first frame. Both would get five for fighting and a game misconduct.

The first period would expire with the Sound Tigers leading 2-1. Bridgeport led in shots 13-6 for the first 20 minutes. Bridgeport was 2 for 2 and Hershey 0 for 1 on the power play in the first frame.

SECOND PERIOD
The Bears would tie the game late in the second period with a power play goal from Garrett Pilon (17) at 15:22 of the middle frame. Phil Maillet (25) and Bobby Nardella (23) had the helpers.

The Bears would quickly grab their first lead of the game on Brian Pinho’s second goal of the game at 17:23 of the middle period. Axel Jonsson-Fjallby (11) and Shane Gersich (6) had the assists.

The Bears would add a third goal in the span of three minutes on Brett Leason’s third goal of the season. Christian Djoos (27) and Beck Malenstyn (8) had the assists.

The period would end with the Bears leading 4-2. The Bears led in shots on goal 12-11 for the middle frame, with Bridgeport leading 24-18 after two periods. Hershey was 1 for 2 and Bridgeport 2 for 2 on the power play after two periods.

THIRD PERIOD
The Sound Tigers cut the Bears lead to one with their third power play goal of the game, this time by Colin McDonald at 4:02 of the final frame.

The Sound Tigers would tie the game after a turnover by Alex Alexeyev in the neutral zone.  Simon Holmstrom would pot the tying marker at 17:38 of the final frame.

Regulation would end, tied 4-4.

OVERTIME
The overtime period would go scoreless
